What Is My Moon Sign? A Guide to All 12 Moon Signs

Holly Biorklund

Your Sun sign is the one everyone knows: it's the sign you read in horoscopes. But in astrology, your Moon sign is just as personal. It's said to describe your inner world: how you feel, what comforts you, and what you need to feel at home.

Here's what a Moon sign is, how to find yours, and what each of the 12 Moon signs means.

What Is a Moon Sign?

Your Moon sign is the zodiac sign the Moon was passing through at the moment you were born. Together with your Sun sign and your Rising sign, it makes up what astrologers call the Big Three.

  • Sun sign: your core self and identity.
  • Moon sign: your emotions, instincts and inner life.
  • Rising sign: the first impression you give.

How to Find Your Moon Sign

The Sun stays in each sign for about a month, so most people know their Sun sign from their birthday alone. The Moon moves much faster: it changes sign roughly every two and a half days. So to find your Moon sign, you need:

  • Your date of birth
  • Your place of birth
  • Your birth time, ideally. If the Moon changed sign on the day you were born, the time decides which sign it was in.

A birth chart shows your Moon sign alongside the Sun and every planet. Don't know your birth time? Read how a chart works without one.

The Full Moon on November 24, 2026

This month's full Moon, the Beaver Moon, falls on November 24, 2026, in Gemini, and it's a supermoon, when the Moon looks a little bigger and brighter than usual. In astrology, full Moons are seen as moments of completion and clarity, and a lovely night to look up at the sky.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is my Moon sign?

It's the sign the Moon was in when you were born. You'll need your birth date and place, and ideally your birth time, to find it.

Is my Moon sign more important than my Sun sign?

Neither is more important. Astrologers read them together: the Sun shows who you are, and the Moon shows what you need.

Can I find my Moon sign without a birth time?

Often, yes. The Moon is in one sign for most days. Only if it changed sign on your birthday does the time decide which one.

Does an Atelier Holly birth chart show the Moon sign?

Yes. Each chart maps the Sun, Moon and planets at the moment and place of birth, designed as fine art by artist Holly Biörklund.
